Did you know that only 8% of your total tax bill goes to support Winnebago County government? If you live in the city of Rockford, that is the same amount you pay to the Rockford Park District!

A great majority of this 8% goes to fund the criminal justice system: The courts, sheriff’s department, Circuit Clerk, and probation. All functions mandated by law that County government provide and pay for.

Working together with the County Board, Chairman Christiansen has led the way for responsible spending leading to an actual decrease in the tax rate you pay! Yet County residents have benefited from increased countywide improvements during this time.

Infrastructure paves the way for economic development, so Scott initiated an $40 million plan for road and sewer improvements throughout each sector of the county. With the completion of each critical "Growth Corridor" comes improved quality of life and flow of business. Best yet, Chairman Christiansen proved he could deliver these enhancements without an increase in tax rates.

As development continues to spread northwesterly from Chicago, Winnebago County is prepared to capitalize on growth opportunities within the structure of the 2030 Land Resource Management Plan. Designed to avoid controversial zoning issues, the plan recommends a fiscally sound strategy for order of land development. This growth will necessitate additional means of transportation, and Christiansen is prepared to meet this demand by bringing passenger rail as well as improved freight rail to the county.
