Christiansen inducted into the National, Illinois and Chicago Environmental Hall of Fame
The Environmental Hall of Fame honored Winnebago County and Chairman Scott Christiansen for their commitment and results on implementing green-energy projects. Projects highlighted include Freedom Field’s solar hot water system for heating and cooling, and the soon-to-be installed wind turbine and rooftop prairie - technology that will allow students to collect various types of data.
Christiansen was honored for providing WinGIS mapping time to the Rock River Trail project, producing the first satellite map ever made of the river (available online at www.rockrivertrail.com). The Rock River Trail project aims to bring together the communities, including 10 counties and 33 cities and villages in Illinois and Wisconsin, along the Rock River in forming a recreational/eco-tourism destination.
For Christiansen’s continual commitment to the environment, he was also honored for his role in creating processes for regular meetings, recommendations and implementations of the county’s Green Team.
“I’m gratefully appreciative and greatly humbled by this honor,” Christiansen said. “We are certainly committed to consistent and significant efforts in Winnebago County to be environmentally friendly. It’s stunning to be recognized on this level.”

The selection committee nominates outstanding candidates for recognition and inducts the winners into the organization. Receiving a place in the Environmental Hall of Fame is intended to be equivalent to receiving an Academy, Emmy or Grammy Award in the entertainment industry. Help our community land the world’s leading aerospace and aviation university here in Winnebago County.
We are a finalist in Embry-Riddle’s search for a 3rd campus location and you can help convince Embry-Riddle to locate here by going to www.rocktheair.com and signing the petition. Our community desperately needs the jobs and revenue that would come with the location of this prestigious school in our area. They will certainly be a game changer for our tax base, so please take a moment and vote; and share this website with all your family, friends, colleagues, etc.
